Description
The Echoes of Australia Series pays tribute to some of Australia’s extinct animals. This coin features the Lesser Bilby, a small carnivore that lived in the most arid deserts down under. Part of a mintage of just 5,000 pieces, this coin was struck at the Royal Australian Mint from 1 oz of .999 fine silver and is plated in stunning black nickel that truly allows the gold highlighted Bilby to stand out.
Adorable Lesser Bilby Design
The coin’s obverse features an image that is familiar to collectors, Ian Rank-Broadley’s right-side portrait of reigning British monarch Queen Elizabeth II. Rank-Broadley shows her wearing a tiara. Her name, “ELIZABETH II,” joins “AUSTRALIA,” “2019,” and “5 DOLLARS” on the rim
The reverse features the Lesser Bilby in its natural habitat, the desert floor. “LESSER BILBY” is inscribed along the rim at the bottom.

If you are looking for an unusual coin this is definitely one to think about. Since starting my collection I have never seen another coin like it. I have to say its a much prettier coin when looking at the real thing. The contrast if the gold animal against the black background is far more striking than the picture shows
