Description
The sixth release of The Royal Mint’s Queen’s Beasts bullion series commemorates the heraldry of the Falcon of the Plantagenets. Introduced as an emblem of the House of Plantagenet in the 1300s by King Edward III, the falcon, as “king” of the birds, symbolized rank and single-minded determination. Measuring 38.61 mm in diameter, this 2019 Falcon of the Plantagenets bullion coin is struck from 2 Troy oz. of .9999 fine silver.
Meticulously Detailed Imagery by Royal Mint Sculptor Jody Clark
Featured on the reverse is a gorgeous falcon perched upon a heraldic shield, which symbolically represents the Plantagenet right to rule, surrounded by a field of chain mail. Inscribed “FALCON OF THE PLANTAGENETS,” “2 OZ FINE SILVER,” “999.9” and “2019.”
An elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse, beautifully contrasted against an elaborate guilloche patterned background. Inscribed “ELIZABETH II, D.G. REG. F.D., 5 POUNDS.”
