Description

This Silver Hemidrachm is a beautiful example of a type of coinage exchanged along the Great Silk Road, the ancient trade route used by merchants to transport luxury items such as spices, jewels, and silk from China to Constantinople. Established along the Caspian Sea’s southern shore, the Kingdom of Tabaristan prospered from its location along the Silk Road, supplying travelers with meat, wool, grain and silver. This silver Hemidrachm of Tabaristan comes from a large hoard of Medieval Treasure found along the trading route.

Magnificent, sharp imagery
Design of Tabaristan coinage was influenced by coins from the preceding Sassanian Empire. The obverse depicts Umar wearing a crown in the style of the Sassanian King Khusru II. The reverse features a Sassanian fire altar surrounded by two attendants.

Exceptionally graded ancient coin
This ancient Silver Hemidrachm of the Kingdom of Tabaristan is graded Choice Mint State, by NGC Ancients, the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation’s (NGC) ancient coin experts. Similar to a coin earning the grade of 63-64 on the Sheldon Scale, this stunning silver coin will exhibit a beautiful strike and sharp details, with remarkable surface quality and eye appeal. The coin is specially presented in a display case holding the NGC encapsulated and labeled coin, beside a beautifully colored story card detailing the historical significance of the Great Silk Road and the Silk Road Hoard.

For those who would like to own a special piece of history in a silver coin, this maybe the very thing you are ;looking for. This coin is quite small and very thin and looks made by hand using accent techniques. The minute it arrives you’ll notice that you have purchased something very special indeed, that can never be created again. This coin tells of past we can only read about
